Conflict Management - 2100 Words
ORGANIZATIONAL CONFLICT MANAGEMENT 1. ABSTRACT Organizational conflict is a state of discord caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests between people working together. Conflict takes many forms in organizations; there is the inevitable clash between formal authority and power and those individuals and groups affected. There are disputes over how revenues should be divided, how the work should be done and how long and hard people should work. There are jurisdictional disagreements among individuals, departments, and between unions and management. Various issues relating to organizational conflict, techniques, systems and practices for conflict resolution will also be discussed in this paper. Organizational Conflict can also be broken out when one party avoids the goal achievement of the other one. Reiterating these ideas, declares that organizational conflict is clearly associated with power and can emerge when goal achievement of an organization is avoided. The reasons that justify conflict in organizations: 1. As departments grow, people lose contact with other departments, or yet, members of a department start to think differently from other areas. 2. The increase of emphasis in the financial measures as a tool for motivation for managers and the establishment of different profit centres inside an integrated business system end up creating many conflicts. 3. The increasing rise of emphasis in functional specialization, politics of promotion and recruiting reinforce the isolation of departments, generating conflicts. 4. The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society free essay sample
The Education Problems in America The United States is supposed to be one of the worldââ¬â¢s most affluent and technologically-advanced societies. Unfortunately, education is not as effective as it should be. There are many problems with public education. I think redistributing funding, collecting the comments on education system from the public, could really make an impact on our education system. What is wrong with the education system? Referring to Roseââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"I Just Wanna Be Averageâ⬠, there were spate of reports on the school criticizes parents for not involving themselves in the education of their children. We will write a custom essay sample on The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Without the parentsââ¬â¢ help, how would someone like middle or high school level student know what to ask? Not like in the past, our parents is not being very involved with our education, they neither wonââ¬â¢t asked about your grades nor homework every day when you got home. They seem not interested in the school life of their children. However, an important consideration in the middle or high schools is the identity development which takes place during adolescence. The role of parents is coach and the mentor toward their kids. As a mentor, they should provide advices and training to their children in order to help them gain experience. It is the best way encouraging students to learn. Lack of parental involvement, students could not pass through the difficulty of studying or even give up learning. By reading what Roseââ¬â¢s experience during the vocational study, one main idea can be summarized. That is, there were a few teachers who worked hard at education. As mentioned, some of them only work for paid and mostly had no idea of how to engage the imaginations of the students. Lack of awareness of the significance of education makes them disinterested in teaching and lessons become bored. Thus, education is boring would branded into studentsââ¬â¢ mind. And, what is wrong in this society? In the United States, millions of adult illiterates are suffering in the courses of their routine existence. Illiteracy means not being able to read and write. Among the main causes of illiteracy the first is poverty. Teenagers might need to work for paid in order to help the family and cannot be spared for school. Although the government improves the education system even better than before, they still cannot benefit from it. Lake of educational facilities is also a major factor. Since the illiterates were not well-educated, so employers would not be willing to pay much for hiring them.If the school or other educational facilities are located far away from where they live, they probably cannot afford the transportation fee. A woman in Detroit, for example, brought home a gallon of Crisco for her children because she thought that she had bought the chicken that was pictured on the label. Looking at the reality described above by reading Kozolââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Human Cost of an Illiterate Societyâ⬠, they are always misleading by the wrong information. You may say the illiteracy problem is just affecting the illiterates themselves, but the true is the America, even the world as a whole would be affected.Since they all have the right to vote for any US political organizations, if the unsuitable person was picked up, the whole country would be suffered. Nowadays, intelligence usually linked with well-educated in this society. Is there a correlation between people who score highly on the exam and those who seem to be more intelligence? According to Asimovââ¬â¢s essay, the answer would be ââ¬Å"NOâ⬠. He argued that the exam result could only indicate you are very good at answering the type of academic questions but not really intelligence.Unlucky, the government is willing to provide more resources on people who did well on the exam than the others. Therefore, illiteracy is not caused by a lack of intelligence. It is caused by the resources wrongly located. The illiterates cannot get what they need for improvement. Illiterates who is suffer most from the education problems in the United States, so their comments are most important to make our education system better, to make our society, a better society. And we need to redistribute the resources in order to help them for improvement. The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society free essay sample The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society Illiteracy in America can have negative and devastating effects on society as a whole. The effects that illiteracy has range from embarrassment to low self-esteem as well as high crime rates. Illiteracy seems to have an even more devastating effect in the lower income communities. Based on that, Johnathan Kozol wrote ââ¬Å"The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society,â⬠that was an article in Illiterate America (1985) to show how illiteracy lowers peopleââ¬â¢s quality of life, reduce the education, and prevents them take part in democratic society fully. Negative effects of illiteracy in America are also heavy in politics. One has to wonder how someone who cannot read or write manages to vote. In order for a person to vote or make a wise decision about who they should vote for, and one must know how to read. As Jonathan Kozol writesâ⬠: The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16 million the entire vote cast for the winner in the 1980 presidential contest. We will write a custom essay sample on The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page If even one third of all illiterates could vote, and read enough and so sufficient math to vote in their self-interest, Ronald Regan would not likely have been chosen president. There is, of course, no way to know for sureâ⬠(253). Most illiterate people that do vote based on what the person looks like but not for what they know about the person and what he or she can do to help. If 60 million people in the United States cannot read, then they cannot cast a vote truly representation of their opinions. As Kozol Claims, the United States has in fact become a government ââ¬Å"of those two thirds whose wealth, skin color, or parental privilege allows them opportunity to profit from the provocation and instruction of written wordâ⬠(253). Every day, the illiterates suffer in the panic of life that they cannot understand. It can affect their parenting roles when the illiterates cannot read or write note to their childrenââ¬â¢ teacher, even they are not able to help with the homework. Illiterates cannot practice with many regular health measures or heed health dangers such as medications can pose a great danger on illiterates because they cannot read to educate themselves about instructions. Especially, illiterates are endangers by not being able to read stipulations. They would be scared and intimidated by lack of understanding. In addition, due to the illiteracy of some women and lack of help in under ââ¬âprivileged hospital, incorrect surgeries have been performed on unsuspecting women and taken away their right of child-bearing. Illiterates cannot manage living expenses. They cannot pay bills easily and often spend more than necessary. They also have to rely on others to know what is going on or explain things to them. Their rights are being violated as citizens because they are not fully informed; they need ask the others but some of whom are not really trustworthy. Illiterates lack the comfort of being able to even do such simple things as emergency phone numbers. In particularity, driving down a street and not knowing how to read the street sings can be scary to an illiterate person Small to big situations, such as ordering food to calling for help are all fears in the everyday life of an illiterate. The fear of not knowing, the fear of being humiliated, the fear of being insure of the rights are all sometimes more problematic than the issue at hand. Sometimes illiterates would rather suffer in silence than be humiliated by someone finding out they cannot read. Kozol uses the essay ââ¬Å"The Human Cost of an Illiterate Societyâ⬠to demonstrate the effects illiteracy has on society. He shows different examples, some of which are dramatic; to portray the dangers illiteracy poses in such simple everyday life tasks. He also explains how illiteracy can have effects on society as a whole. He feels that government has neglected this issue for too long. Kozol hopes this essay can recruit the reader into an effort to get the problem of illiteracy addressed and corrected.

Comments: the financial statements do not always balance, which is risky in terms of promoting fraud Reasons for comments The comments indicated in the above checklist are after careful study of the organization and its operations. There have been cases of employees losing their jobs after being found guilty of fraudulent activity within the company (Pasiuk $ Vault, 2005). This is the right thing to do because it sets examples to the other employees. With the number of fraud cases within the company, the management should report to the relative authorities so that the same is avoided. The management does not take time to investigate the reasons why they are fraud within the company. Investigations would promise a reduction on the fraud cases. The organization has a mission and vision statement that helps to run it. A code of ethics is important in every organization and Krogerââ¬â¢s has adopted one for the organization. Krogerââ¬â¢s train their employees and they are known to pick some of their potential employees from universities and colleges. There are always cases of fraud within the organizat ion sometimes involving the management meaning the management does not set the best example to the rest of the employees. Their employees are screened to ensure that their productivity is optimal. They have a substandard internal system. Access to some of the most confidential document and files is not limited. The job descriptions are not respected by all employees because job description is not clearly defined. This means that there are those who are exploited and this is unfair. The supervision is not adequate as the supervisors lack sufficient information to know and detect fraud within the company. The rest of the employees do not know about fraud by management overrides and this exposes the organization to higher fraud risks. There are annual budget reviews in the organizations that reflect the expenditure and income of the business (Pasiuk Vault, 2005). Recommendations I recommend asset identification and registration, which includes revenue collection, expenditure, supplies ad computers at the organization. The management should also recognize the risks involved with protecting these assets. The risks involve knowing when assets are being misused and if they are getting lost within the company and finding ways of preventing this (Biegelman Bartow, 2012). Positive control should be made aware to all the staff members to demonstrate responsibility. The internal control system in the company should be effective. This includes sufficient supervision, inventories and appropriate documentation. This will ensure that there is no unofficial use loss or damage of company assets. Every employee should be allocated specialized responsibility for effective and efficient cohesion in terms of fraud prevention in the work place. The responsibilities should be clearly defined for instance they should know the different levels of authority within the organization . This will also reduce over reliance on one person and prevent abuse. I recommend the managers to take keen supervision measures to ensure that productivity is optimum. Supervision includes control checks of lower level staff and it will help them to detect any cases of fraud (Biegelman Bartow, 2012). Random checks by the supervisors will be an effectual anti-fraud measure. Krogerââ¬â¢s should adopt an audit trail as a measure of fraud detection. It ensures that all controls are checked and reviewed through a system. Effective monitoring and evaluation should be done periodically by an independent team. This will make clear any fraudulent activity within the company. Satisfactory staffing should be made to ensure that the system works effectively. Staffing should not be done without thorough vetting and interviews. Financial and accounting controls should be done by the delegated people in the company. This will reduce risks of fraud. The systems within the company should be developed, modified and upgraded to the latest versions for efficiency. Tr eatment of staff members is important. They should be allowed leave days, promotions, health benefits and they should not work under stress (Biegelman Bartow, 2012). All these are contributors of fraudulent activities within companies. As an anti-frau preventive measure, Krogerââ¬â¢s should have an auditing committee. This committee identifies fraud risks and implements their prevention procedures. It will also ensure transparency by the senior management team. The committee should be assisted by anti-fraud specialists. The management should provide the rest of the employees with opportunities to report concerns about suspected fraud within and without the company. They should have both internal and external auditors. Internal auditor will help in the deterrence of fraud and the external auditors should liaise with internal auditor to ensure zero tolerance for fraud (Biegelman Bartow, 2012). It is important to have an ethics policy and a fraud policy within an organization. This is made available to the employees upon employment and sporadically during their term of employment. Adoption of these measures will guarantee a prevention and reduction of fraudulent activities within the company. Reference Biegelman, M. T., Bartow, J. T. (2012). Study Guide for Shakespeare's Sonnet 29 Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Sonnet 29 is noted as a favorite with Coleridge. It explores the notion that love can cure all ills and make us feel good about ourselves. It demonstrates the strong feelings that love can inspire in us, both good and bad. Sonnet 29: The Facts Sequence: Sonnet 29 is part of the Fair Youth SonnetsKey Themes: Self-pity, self-hatred, love overcoming feelings of self-deprecation.Style: Sonnet 29 is written in iambic pentameter and follows the traditional sonnet form Sonnet 29: A Translation The poet writes that when his reputation is in trouble and he is failing financially; he sits alone and feels sorry for himself. When no one, including God, will listen to his prayers, he curses his fate and feels hopeless. The poet envies what others have achieved and wishes he could be like them or have what they have: Desiring this manââ¬â¢s heart and that manââ¬â¢s scope However, when in the depths of his despair, if he thinks of his love, his spirits are lifted: Haply I think on thee, and then my state,Like to the lark at break of day arising When he thinks of his love his mood is elevated to the heavens: he feels rich and wouldnââ¬â¢t change places, even with kings: For thy sweet love remembered such wealth bringsThat I scorn to change my state with kings. Sonnet 29: Analysis The poet feels awful and wretched and then thinks about his love and feels better. The sonnet is considered by many to be one of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s greatest. However, the poem has also been scorned for its lack of gloss and its transparency. Don Paterson author of Reading Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Sonnets refers to the sonnet as a duffer or fluff. He derides Shakespeareââ¬â¢s use of weak metaphors: ââ¬Å"Like to the lark at break of day arising/ From sullen earth...â⬠pointing out that the earth is only sullen to Shakespeare, not to the lark, and therefore the metaphor is a poor one. Paterson also points out that the poem does not explain why the poet is so miserable. It is up to the reader to decide whether this is important or not. We can all identify with feelings of self-pity and someone or something bringing us out of this state. As a poem, it holds its own. The poet demonstrates his passion, mainly for his own self-loathing. This mayà be the poet internalizing his conflicting feelings towards the fair youth and projecting or crediting any feelings of self-worth and self-confidence onto him, attributing the fair youth with the ability to affect his image of himself.

Multic wk6 - Essay Example Traditionally girls wear pink and boys wear blue. This does not happen as often in our society anymore, but it still is a way that people tell whether a baby is a boy or a girl. I wondered whether that little girl would grow up to be a girl who liked frilly dresses and wore makeup or whether she would grow up another way. Her grandmother was socializing her to be a girl, but sometimes this is not the way that the child sees themselves. I think my own gender socialization was towards being female but because I have met so many people in my life, I believe that I am open minded enough to understand that people are different in many ways. As an example, if I were to counsel someone who was transgendered, although I could not relate directly to the way they felt, I could understand the impact of how their gender socialization may or may not have been a positive situation for them. In think that my socialization could only help to enhance my work with clients because although I was geared towards being very feminine, I found out later in life that that was not exactly the person that I was -- I enjoyed being a tomboy sometimes, dressing in frilly clothes sometimes, and then just wearing causal clothes when I hang out with my friends. The greatest challenge for gays and lesbians is the fact that many people think that it is "wrong". Although some aspects of society have accepted that this lifestyle is just an additional aspect of peel relating to each other, there is a faction of society that wants to believe that this is wrong according to God. Because of this, many gays and lesbians experience oppression in a similar way that blacks did before civil rights. Many gays and lesbians would like to be legally married because they have families in similar ways as heterosexual couples. This means that they need to have provisions made for custody of their children in case something happens to one or both of the parents and they need to
